Wide Awake | Atlanta Baby Photographer
In life, the sooner you learn to just roll with punches, the better off you will be. In the baby photographer business, this lesson is something we live by on a daily basis.
A prime example is when we had this little guy in the studio recently, and he decided to stay awake during majority of his session. I was able to capture a few shots, but after that those handsome eyes opened up and the curiosity took over. Thankfully, he was so content with simply watching my every move, that the session was still an absolute breeze. I will give majority of the credit to his parents, whom made a perfectly chill, little guy. For that extra little bit of perfect behavior, I would also like to thank The Baby Shusher that we keep in the studio as well. That miracle worker gave us a little extra boost in our soothing ambiance, which, as you can see, allowed us to effortlessly work through different takes and outfits changes, while still being able to capture gorgeous shots.
I’m going to let you in on a little secret…special gestures are my love language. So, when this family told me they drove all the way to me – in Buckhead – from south of Atlanta, I was so touched. It is simply the idea that a family saw our work – and read about us on Experise’s list for “Best Newborn Photographers in Atlanta” – packed up their belongings and made a trip to this little studio, because they thought we could capture their special milestone the best. That means the world to us. Call me biased, but I definitely think these shots were totally worth the drive. We are currently working on putting together one of our beautiful albums for them. I cannot wait to see the turnout.
Thank you for allowing us to do what we do. Xoxo.
All Boy | Atlanta Newborn Photographer
One thing I love about newborn sessions is the ability to turn almost any ordinary, household item into some sort of a makeshift cradle. Want the most adorable example of that ever? Que little man Levi and his wooden baskets. We went all boy with this little guy; adding in our cozy, brown-scheme blankets, real-wood baskets, and navy- and tan-striped beanie. This smiley, little hunk is the cutest little woodland creature I ever did see.
Levi is the fifth addition to his beautiful family, and is well protected by an older brother and sister. I have said it once before and I will say it one million times more – I absolutely LOVE when I am able to add in siblings. For me, it’s like I get a little peek of the older kids’ tenderness and awareness for just how small their new little brother or sister is, and it gives me all of the heart eyes.
For the moments when baby Levi wasn’t being cuddled by family, we made sure he felt just a soothed by using our go-to baby whisperer, the Marpac Dohm sound machine. When I say this is a miracle worker, I mean it. I even use it with my three little girls!
Lastly, I was able to tap into my second hobby with this family – home decor. Here at the studio, we have a beautiful array of frames and albums that we love to put together at the family’s request. It’s an even sweeter treat when I’m gifted the opportunity to come place them in our clients’ homes. I am so looking forward to how beautiful their three custom frames are going to turn out – absolutely gorgeous.
If you’re looking for a lighter color scheme for your baby boy, take a look at Desmond’s session. How cute is that beanie, y’all?
Have a wonderful weekend. Xoxo.
Atlanta Newborn Photography | Family Reunion
When a family tells me they are coming in for a newborn photography session, I think, “okay – let’s make sure the studio has everything Mom and Dad might need while they are here.” Well, with this particular session, I had a few more people to think about.
For the Vayman crew, our session was a full on family affair. In addition to mom, dad and baby, both sets of grandparents came – two flew in for the special occasion – along with the wonderful great-grandmother. Let me just tell you…watching great-grandma hold that baby boy was a sight I pray I carry with me for the rest of my life. There is something about a seeing the family matriarch, well into her 90s, holding the newest family addition – barely 9 days old. My eyes well up just thinking about. So much life lived and so much yet to come. It is absolutely amazing
While on the topic of beautiful moments, let me just gush over mom and that white dress for a second. I mean, hello. Not only was she a vision in white, but a maternal vision at that. There was something about that dress…it gave her a sort of air about her. A strong, yet vulnerable vibe that only mothers can truly posses. Something that says, “I will protect you as my own, but also, here’s my heart – take it.” Motherhood looks good on her, I must say.
People always ask me what they should wear and I always tell them, “whatever feels best.” Mom and Dad dress differently each time and I love to have the variety. One thing I will say, however, is to keep your outfits simple. For another example of what to wear, take a look at our recent sitting-up session with this cutie and momma.
It was such a joy to have this family in our studio. We know that crazy, on-the-go family moments like this are inevitable, so to help you tackle them like a pro, Fawn Design has created a beautiful diaper bag for all of you parents in need. All of their stuff is on my wishlist!
Until next time.
Newborn Photography Atlanta | Sibling Snuggles with Porter
In the sweet land of newborn photography, you know what warms my heart and makes it burst simultaneously? Creamy tones and sibling snuggles.
So, when it came to little man Porter’s session, it is safe to say that I was in emotional overload. First of all, can we please talk about these beautiful sisters of his? All three of them with that dark hair – oh my goodness. I had to grab a couple of shots of his hair up close. I was swooning. Family moments like these are so special, because think about it – when are they ever going to be that little again? When are they ever going to be that QUIET together again? The chances are slim, y’all. So, I love capturing still shots of a moment that will never be quite the same moving forward.
These precious nuggets cuddled, laughed, and were so gentle with baby brother. I love watching the interaction between the three of them. The tender kiss on the forehead from big sisters, while they gently snuggled up close; mom and dad stand behind the camera, smiling from ear to ear. It’s the energy from moments like these that I think to myself, “how much luckier could a girl get?”
Apparently, a lot more, because after big sisters were off duty, my imagination and I had a field day. I was digging through the stash of blankets, caps and props; pulling a variety of tones that turned out beautifully for this session. Everything from golden beanies to dark gray wool – warm and cool. I’m in sensory overload just looking at these photos.
Speaking of feels, make sure to take look at a little throwback to our twin sibling session with Kian and Callen. I told you, I’m a sucker for sibling love.
Also, if you’re loving big sisters’ dresses as much as I am, check out Old Navy’s tutu dress. It is such a perfect option for your upcoming session. Excuse me while I go grab one for all three of my girls…in every color.
The Best Newborn Photographer in Atlanta
If you would have told me years ago, when I began this little business of mine, that we would be recognized as the best newborn photographer in Atlanta, I am not sure I would have believed you.
Like many other women, I carry around several different titles – mother, daughter, wife, business owner – just to name a few, and sometimes it can be difficult to be good at all of them at all times. That is why I have always tried to focus less on being “good” at what life has handed me, and more on doing what my heart feels is right as I perform in my certain roles. When I added “newborn photographer” to my list of titles years ago, it absolutely felt right. My heart was in it from the beginning. From a young age, the idea of capturing precious baby moments for families was an opportunity I knew I was called to do.
As a photographer, just being able to take beautiful photographs and cuddle sweet babies is enough for me. So, when someone takes a look at our photos and deems them worthy of recognition, it’s an over-the-moon kind of feeling for everyone. That is why I am so thrilled to share that Jess Kamm Photography’s “heart work” was once again recognized as one of Expertise’s “Best Newborn Photographers in Atlanta” for 2018. After surveying 220 newborn photographers here in Atlanta, Expertise narrowed it down to the top 22. Don’t worry, I’ve been saying it out loud since I received the email just to ensure that I fully accepted the reality of it. We are smiling so hard and are unbelievably grateful to have made the list.
If I have said it once, then I have said it one million times – thank you to all of the families that make our work so magnificent. It’s easy to do what you love when you’re surrounded by wonderful people and their precious blessings. We all are on our own crazy journeys, and we have loved being able to capture some of your newest beginnings.
